Centre for Health and Development Murska Sobota

The Slovenian academic partner is the Centre for Health and Development Murska Sobota, which was established by the Institute of Public Health Murska Sobota with the support of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia in 2005 to promote research, education, investments in health and development, and sustainable development in the Pomurje region and beyond. In 2009 the Centre for Health and Development Murska Sobota became a WHO Collaborating Centre with the programme to implement capacity building in the field of intersectoral investment in health. The main goal has been to share and transfer the good practices and capacity building activities to the Member State Healthcare Network in Southeast Europe in the fields of social determinants, reduction of health inequalities and intersectoral investment in health. CHD has been widely involved in many projects and programmes, connected with a number of partner organizations in Pomurje, Slovenia and Europe, gaining a lot of experience in various fields, such as investment for health and development, reduction of health inequalities, social determinants of health, sustainable tourism development, preservation of the cultural heritage, offering support to the local sustainable and self-sufficiency initiatives, and empowering the civil society in achieving a higher quality of life. In 2014 we extended the WHO collaborating centre status – WHO Collaborating Centre in Capacity building for cross-sectoral investment in Health, for the second time entering WHO Regions for Health Network and WHO Platform on social determinants of health and reducing inequalities. We are also building a partnership with the South-eastern Europe Health Network and are representing our country on various occasions, in different projects and in EU expert groups. We are also important partner of Ministry of Health and national institute of public health in capacity building in the field of social determinants of health and health inequalities. CHD has its own facilities, which include two offices and one conference room, all with modern ICT equipment (computers, printers, projector, network and Internet connection), which enable uninterrupted work and implementation of various activities. The Slovenian academic partner has carried out several projects for children in primary schools and in kindergartens. The main issues of these projects were, agriculture, sustainable mobility, quality food for children, and the promotion of short food supply chains. These projects and programmes were co-financed through different sources at the national and cross-borders levels, thus reflecting our involvement with different partners, such as research institutes, schools, kindergartens, hospitals, public institutes for health promotion, development agencies, etc. The “Investment for Health and Development” (IHD) model has been define by WHO and has been used as an approach to improve health of the population within Vulnerable groups in the case of CHD. Our center has been widely involved in many projects and programs, connected with a number of partner organizations in Pomurje, Slovenia and Europe, gaining key experiences in various fields, such as investment for health and development, social determinants of health, sustainable tourism development, agriculture, preservation of the cultural heritage, offering support to the local sustainable and self-sufficiency initiatives and empowering the civil society in achieving a higher quality of life.
